Okan Buruk Set for New Contract as Galatasaray Shapes Future Squad Strategy

Galatasaray are entering a decisive phase both on and off the pitch, with head coach Okan Buruk at the center of long-term planning. After leading the club to four consecutive league titles, Buruk is now preparing for a new era that includes a contract renewal, strategic transfers, and squad restructuring ahead of the upcoming season.

New Deal Imminent with Performance Bonuses

The Galatasaray board has made its stance clear: continuity with Okan Buruk is a top priority. Club president Dursun Özbek is expected to officially begin his new term on June 1, and one of his first actions will be to finalize a new two-year contract with the successful manager.

Reports suggest the deal will run until May 2028, aligning with Özbek’s presidency. Financial terms are also becoming clearer, with Buruk’s annual salary set to rise to around €4 million. In addition, the contract will include performance-based bonuses. Achieving a fifth consecutive Süper Lig title and reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals would each trigger an additional €1 million reward.

Transfer Strategy Focused on Domestic Talent

Squad planning for next season is already underway, shaped heavily by Buruk’s recommendations. With new foreign player regulations introduced by the Turkish Football Federation, increasing the quality of domestic players has become a key objective.

At the top of Buruk’s wishlist is rising Turkish star Can Uzun, currently playing for Eintracht Frankfurt. The 21-year-old midfielder is seen as a priority signing, with reports claiming Buruk has strongly urged the board to secure his transfer if possible.

In attack, uncertainty surrounds Mauro Icardi, who has reportedly rejected a €4 million offer. Rather than building the squad around the Argentine striker, Buruk is exploring alternative options to complement or compete with Victor Osimhen. Names such as Bertuğ Yıldırım from RAMS Başakşehir and Porto’s young forward Deniz Gül have emerged as potential targets.

Barış Alper Yılmaz Considered Untouchable

One of the cornerstones of Galatasaray’s future project is Barış Alper Yılmaz. The 26-year-old winger has attracted serious interest from top European clubs, including Arsenal.

However, Buruk is determined to keep him at the club. According to reports, the coach personally contacted the player during international duty, delivering a clear message: he remains essential to Galatasaray’s Champions League ambitions and should stay focused on the upcoming season.

No Break from Football During Off-Season
Despite being on a short vacation following the 2025–2026 season, Okan Buruk continues to closely monitor football developments. Spending time in Marmaris and Bodrum, the experienced coach is also attending the UEFA Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.

Looking ahead, Buruk is expected to meet with Dursun Özbek and football executive Abdullah Kavukcu next week to finalize decisions on key transfer targets and squad adjustments.
